The photo here shows Mr Peet introducing his class to Bishop Joseph Gray and Fr. John Blanc (Chair of Governors) and we believe it dates back to the late-1980s. The picture was brought into school by Mr Brennan, who used to teach maths at the school and now (amongst other things) volunteers for Cafod and spending much of his time visiting schools throughout the diocese.
School Saddend at the Loss of a Past Teacher
The school was saddened to hear of the death of Mr John Peet who taught Modern Foreign Languages at the Catholic High for many years. He will be remembered by colleagues for his sense of humour and particular support for new staff, and by students as a man with passion for his subject and its teaching.
Busta Rhyme (YoungWriters)
A number of year 7 to 10 students recently entered a poetry competition run by YoungWriters.co.uk.
YoungWriters have received over 12000 entries nationally and forty-four of our students have been selected for publication on 31st March 2017. Each of the students, who entered, had the chance of winning a £1000 prize for themselves and an overall prize of £1000 for their school.
These winners have yet to be published.
Editors chose the poems to publish by taking a broad view on what makes a good poem: perception, imagination and creativity, as well as expression, originality and effective use of language.
This competition has continued to fuel our young writers’ passion for poetry and has helped to keep students motivated with their writing.
The English department at Ellesmere Port Catholic High school are very proud of our students’ efforts.
